Critical Illness Protection
Critical Illness Protection cover pays out a lump sum on the diagnosis of a critical condition and can be bought on its own or to supplement life assurance policies. Extra money can pay the bills during recovery and help a family or business continue to function financially. We also help businesses to arrange Group Critical Illness cover as a valuable employee benefit for staff.
One in three of us will suffer from heart disease, cancer or stroke at some time in our lives and one in five males and one in six females will suffer a critical illness before age 65 - according to the Munich Reinsurance Company. The advance of medical science means that many patients return to good health. Each year in the UK, over 10,000 people under 65 suffer from a stroke - and 77% survive for at least a year. Over 330,000 people suffer a heart attack each year - and more than 57% are still alive a year later. In one year, 75,000 women in the UK were diagnosed with having cancer - on average, 43% of those women survived for 5 years or more.
A report listing each of the 632 critical illness claims paid by Skandia Life to June 2001, shows that the average age of the claimant was 43, policies had been in force an average of only 36 months, the average claim was over £80,000, and 60% of the claims paid were for cancer. Real people - lives, families, and businesses disrupted - and real claims paid.
